SEMCO’s TSS200B is the ideal instrument for telemetry receiver bench testing and pre-mission receiving system checkout. The TSS200B’s calibrated RF output covers 200 MHz to 5250 MHz, provides +5 dBm to -100 dBm outputs and is modulated with an internal user-selectable modulator in all IRIG-specified modulation formats, including PCM/FM, NTSC and PAL Composite Video, PM, BPSK, QPSK, AQPSK, UQPSK, AUQPSK, Tier I SOQPSK-TG, Tier II Multi-h CPM and FM/FM Sub-carrier (2). An optional AM antenna error signal feature is also available. FEC encoders include Low Density Parity Check (LDPC), Viterbi, Turbo and Reed-Solomon. In addition, the TSS200B can be externally modulated with I and Q signals, as well as with a binary file. Bore-sight testing includes the TSS200B +20 dBm and +37 dBm high power output options.
An optional embedded RF Sensor Calibration option provides for a very precise RF output within 0.2 dBm across each installed frequency band.
Two calibrated RF outputs are available with the Combiner dynamic test feature, providing the ability to test a combiner’s performance under user-selectable fade, fade rate and phase shift scenarios. The fader feature is also used to create an RF test signal with a sinusoidal AM component. This option is user-configurable for rates between 0-50 kHz and fade depths between 0-30 dB. With these two settings, the user can simulate the scan function of a given antenna/ACU system and the outputted RF signal can then be transmitted to the tracking receivers where proper AGC and AM output response can be determined.
Bit Error Rate tests are performed using the embedded dual channel Bit Sync, Frame Sync, BERT and PN Pattern Generator feature. This dual channel feature is especially useful in supporting independent I and Q BER testing. Automated AGC “Step Cals” and the ability to graph and print Eb/No plots enhance the effectiveness of the TSS200B as a TM ground station test instrument.
The external modulation feature allows for user-provided analog and digital signal and test patterns as well as binary file playback capability using pre-recorded mission data. The Preset feature provides the ability to name, save and load all settings. The simulators also provide for data and test result logging and printout as a .csv file.
With its 4.3″ front panel touch screen controls and local/remote (network) controls, the TSS200B has proven to be a very cost-effective alternative to costly instrumentation suites traditionally used for pre-mission calibration and checkout.
