SEMCO designs and builds Telemetry Re-Radiation Systems in support of requirements to umbilically receive low power or telemetry links that cannot be directly accessed and then amplify and transmit this telemetry signal to a designated remote site. An example of such a system is the Pre-Exit Telemetry Retransmission Amplifier (PETRA Gen2).
The purpose of the PETRA Gen 2 System is to receive telemetry signals from each connected Vertical Launching System (VLS) missile canister, combine and amplify these signals, and re-radiate them for reception by shipboard or land-based telemetry receivers.
PETRA operates in S-Band (2185-2485 MHz). Automatic RF leveling maintains constant output power levels. User selectable high or low gain output power is 10W or 500mW. Transmission threshold is user adjustable from -40 to -35 dBm. Normal operation input RF range is -40 dBm to -10 dBm, with a protected mode from -10 to +10 dBm. An automatic shutoff feature protects the device from excessive input RF levels above +10 dBm. An audio buzzer indicates transmission activation.
PETRA can be used in a dual or single input configuration. A single RF output is connected to PETRA’s 50 ft. LMR coax cable and 6 dBi omni-directional antenna. Two monitor outputs are provided for local monitoring of the RF input signals.
PETRA’s physical enclosure design includes tie-down strap recesses, vertical and horizontal grooves to allow nesting to structures and a carrying handle. These features allow for PETRA operation either standing or lying on its side, as well as various means to attach the PETRA to available structures.
A waterproof membrane switch panel with integrated LCD display mounted on the front panel precludes any accidental switching. The front panel and LCD display is ruggedized and resistant to heavy shock and vibration, water and EMI. Operating temperatures are 50 to 140 degrees F. An internal cooling fan auto adjusts to internal temperature with an over-temp RF output shutoff.
Local control utilizes front panel push-button membranes with LED indicators and LCD display. The display and controls provide features such as status indicators, RSSI levels, AGC levels, and temperature. Additional features include RF trip threshold, fan mode, backlight and contrast, alarm and LED tests. A protected calibration menu is also available.
