The VDU-100M Series takes video from its point of collection, digitizes and compresses it, and then transmits that video via military radios, satellite terminals, and/or cellular networks to observers using devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets. No other technology can transmit video over the relatively low data rates of some military radios (e.g., 9600 baud). The technology is designed to get the intelligence derived from a video source (e.g., UAS Ground Control Station) to the tactical units and intelligence analysts using currently available means of transmission. The Viewing devices are also readily available – laptops, smartphones, tablets. These devices only require a software application. So in near real-time, a soldier can observe tactical video using equipment he/she already has. Similarly, an intelligence analyst can actually see the ISR results now, rather than having it described to him/her or having him/her wait to get the recorded video later.
